Going home

The natural world has a great number of different faces. If you want, you can divide people into groups depending on which part of nature they prefer. There are fans of mountains, the ones that root for rivers, supporters of the woods, and many others.

Whichever place you visit of those mentioned above, you will probably enjoy it in a slightly different, special way, if you generally like spending time in nature. Every place brings its specific atmosphere and feeling.

Every time I go hiking in the woods, I ask myself why I don’t do it more often. It fills me with special energy and strength. I haven’t been to many rivers yet, but the ones I have visited so far left a tremendous trace on me. And as I am afraid of heights, I avoid going to the mountains, but that one hike on the Velebit mountain will always be one of the most beautiful memories of my student days.

But despite all, I will always be rooting for the sea.

To me, going to the sea is going back, and reaching further at the same time.

It means going back, going home, going to the place where I first set my foot – well, not very knowingly or skillfully – when I was two months old.

It means reaching further, always catching more of that peculiar feeling of pure life, seeing more of the pure beauty of this world.

The sea has an immense power. Most of the time, it rests there, calm, deep, quiet, timeless.

But it never loses its strength.

I hope that you have found, or will eventually find, your very own piece of nature. I hope that the irreplaceable feeling of being a part of it will stay remembered, even after the vacation has ended, even after leaving and going back to the city.

And now, all that remains for me is to go back home.
